out of training in july, 1968, went to the united states navy, and belt with peak -- dealt with people coming back from "apocalypse now," essentially. the involvement that john kerry had, i saw the people on those boats. host: did that inspire you to run for congress, serving in your 13th term? guest: absolutely, i came back in july of 1970 and was elected. i think war was generally destructive. that is why i opposed the iraq war. i have seen the movie before. i know what is coming back from iraq and afghanistan and i did not want it to happen. we are inundated with suicide and all kinds of problems in our society. that had an impact on me, john kerry, chuck hagel -- a lot of us went through all of us to understand what war is all about. host: a little background as we talk to jim mcdermott. wayne, a question or comment for the congressman. caller: healthcare, medicare stuff like that, -- medicare should stay with the younger -- elder folks that earned it. healthcare, right now, it should be with the company's. right now i am with a -- i am a truck driver. we have to pay for our own me

, retired the lottery. caller: i am a retired navy contingent -- commander. i have worked for five years as a peer counselor with beds with posttraumatic stress. i am one of the persons who got the veterans health administration to issue a decree that canada's can be used by veterans for the treatment of ptsd -- for better and problems. what is your opinion on the use of cannabis? guest: thank you for your service. you mentioned posttraumatic stress without the disorder. there is a lot of discussion whether ptsd should be renamed posttraumatic stress or pressure madigan injury. there is a lot of validity behind taking a look at the name. many people do not want to be diagnosed as having a disorder on injury -- an industry -- an injury is considered to be more honorable. in washington, d.c., we see people who develop psychosis as a result of using marijuana or the synthetic marijuana. i do not think we know and not yet about the use of marijuana for ptsd. i think we should export it. there should be research done on it. we may be able to use some of the materials and cannabis -- in cannab

"usa today" money section says -- we will go to randy in missouri, democratic caller. back to our topic, randy, about drone strikes on u.s. citizens overseas. go ahead. caller: good morning, greta. this policy out there is not something that has been a secret. it has always been out there. even people in the senate knew about this policy. second, this is about people who are taking up arms who are u.s. citizens, deciding to plot with the enemy to destroy america. if people are sorry for them, that's on them. but this is what this is about. this is about people who take up arms. it's no different than when boats are on the ground and all of a sudden you have a few americans decided they will cross the line to take up arms with the enemy, what
